Stories about Excited Delirium, the Shock Economy and a little fiction here and there.

Rove-rs Declare “Tase Him”

Full Story and Video Here.

I like the question about Karl Rove being a fundamentally bad human being and then he just makes a big joke about it. I guess you get used to those kinds of questions when you’re in that kind of business.

The School Crotch Inspector

Full Story Here.

Is it me, or have things gone just a little too far?

There are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who think it’s perfectly reasonable to strip-search a 13-year-old girl suspected of bringing ibuprofen to school, and the kind who think those people should be kept as far away from children as possible. The first group includes officials at Safford Middle School in Safford, Arizona, who in 2003 forced eighth-grader Savana Redding to prove she was not concealing Advil in her crotch or cleavage.

It also includes two judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, who last fall ruled that the strip search did not violate Savana’s Fourth Amendment rights. The full court, which recently heard oral arguments in the case, now has an opportunity to overturn that decision and vote against a legal environment in which schoolchildren are conditioned to believe government agents have the authority to subject people to invasive, humiliating searches on the slightest pretext.

NAFTA: Reps From All Partners to Submit Legislation to Stop the SPP

I don’t seem to recall the creation of the EU being such an issue, but then, I think the intentions were a little different.

Full Story Here.

The citizens of all three NAFTA countries must demand more transparency in regards to the SPP. Some believe that it might be better to scrap NAFTA and just start from scratch. The reality remains the same – in a North American Union, Canada, the U.S., and Mexico would cease to exist as sovereign nations. This is a decision that should not be left up to corporate elites, bureaucrats or politicians, but to the will of the people.

This is an inspiring story:

As heavy winds lashed Spain on Saturday evening wind parks generated 9,862 megawatts of power which translated to 40.8 percent of total consumption. Between Friday and Sunday wind power accounted for an average of 28 percent of all electricity demand in Spain. Spain’s wind power generation equaled that of hydropower for the first time in 2007.

Lawmakers Invested Heavily in Defense

Full Story Here.

In the Shock Doctrine, these conflicts were made all too clear. However, Klein focused her energies on folks who were even higher up, including the likes of Cheney, Rumsfeld and other senior members of the Oval Office.

Quotes:

Overall, 151 members hold investments worth $78.7 million to $195.5 million in companies that receive defense contracts that are worth at least $5 million. These investments earned them anywhere between $15.8 million and $62 million between 2004 and 2006, the center concludes.

Demand Net Neutrality

The Internet business is just starting to get its foothold and it’s important that the entire business be treated equally to ensure that the best in product, innovation and services materalize for consumers and small/large businesses.

Net Neutrality is a critical backbone to the growth of this industry in Canada.

If you are aware of ISPs and connection services that provide ‘throttle-free’ services, please let me know as I’m compiling a list for users of this and other blogs as well as other media sources.

If you have different views on this issue, please post them here. This is a topic that I’m keen on developing a better understanding of, as well as specific recommendations for companies like Bell and Rogers that will satisfy some of their business needs while ensuring equal access for all sites.
