“If I’m guilty of one sin, it’s my love of Arithmomancy,” Garamond exclaimed to Hadlock as he swirled a glass of 18 year-old Lagavulin scotch. They were on their way from the airport to the OMNINet building and were driving over the 59th Street Bridge. The two were reclining in the back of their custom-made Mercedes limousine, stocked with booze, entertainment, and leather seats.

“Whatever you say, sir,” Hadlock whispered sarcastically under his breath. Before Garamond could ask what he had said, Simon spoke up, “I’m not sure I know what you mean.”

“Some say that Arithmomancy, or numerology to most other people, is akin to witchcraft, but I think God was a great fan of numbers and math because they are everywhere.”

“Do you mean ‘is’?” Hadlock suggested.

“Of course. Of course,” Garamond said, mildly acknowledging his mistake.

“Speaking of numbers, we should discuss the allocation of our deposits with the Central Banks of Indonesia and Morocco. They are quite anxious to make sure that they have taken care of all of our requirements, given that we’ve transferred the economic equivalent of about half of the world’s GDP.”

“All in good time, Simon,” Garamond interrupted. “Allow me a few moments of peace before we talk about our wealth. Allow me this moment to do my monologue, if you don’t mind.” Continue reading

Eddie flew from the OMNINet building as quickly as he could, knowing that it was just a matter of time before someone realized what he had done. He thought for a moment about the welfare of Forest Samson, but the thought lasted about as long as an urbanite waits when a light turns green. Despite his rush, he didn’t want to look too far out of sorts, because it was still early afternoon. Most people don’t rush out of the OMNINet buildings until late in the day. Very late.

He turned towards the hotel where Kite was staying and where he had told him to go to when he was finished his ‘mission’.

Strangely, he would have never known this before now, but the last 20 minutes were probably the most insane and invigorating minutes of his life, as sad as that might sound. He now understood one of the reasons why Kite did what he did. Continue reading

What started as a simple vendetta against one of the world’s largest corporations had materialized into a great, vast disaster for Diana. She had no idea that people like Garamond were capable of this kind of hatred and viciousness, but the evidence was clearly and carefully laid out before her.

She spent most of her life trying to find weaknesses in the OMNINet and for once in her life, she felt like she had the upper hand.

Kite had done his job well. Continue reading

“What you are looking at, gentlemen,” Garamond stated, “is information on a particular form of technology that Nikola Tesla developed shortly before he died in the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in 1943, just down the block from where we are now.”

“One of the last major projects that he was working on involved a theoretical technology known as ‘Scalar Movements’. The public has never seen these documents or what we’ve done with them because they were all confiscated by the FBI shortly after he died. They used ‘national security’ as an excuse and for once, they were right. If this technology fell into the wrong hands, it would have been disastrous for this great country of ours.” Continue reading

“I worry some times, because it makes me feel like a Sybarite,” Garamond hollered.

“Excuse me sir … a what?” asked Hadlock, as they hurried off the landing platform. He was having a little trouble hearing, having just leaped from his transportation, a freshly purchased executive-style Sikorsky S76.

“Sybaris was a village in ancient Greece,” Garamond yelled, “where the inhabitants were said to have lived in grand luxury. They were much more decadent than the Babylonians or even the Gamorrans.”

“Oh, OK. Those Sybarites,” Hadlock said, trying to keep his mocking to a minimum. “I fully understand now, sir” Continue reading

Getting laws passed in the United States that are in your favour is easy. All you have to do is support a non-descript bill that won’t really get a lot of attention and have a friendly Senator tack on an amendment that represents your needs.

The real work is going to all the dinners, dances and other social affairs that take place nightly around Capitol Hill. Political funding today shows it head with donations to specific charities and research groups in the names of certain Senators and Congressmen or elaborate business trips and guest speaking tours in exotic locales, all funded by the organization that ‘wants change’. In Manhattan, a small group of women who call themselves “FAB”, short for “Female and Barren”, meet at a designated location the first Tuesday of every month.

At their meetings, they discuss victories and more often, defeats, associated with facing a life of being barren. The format of the meetings is similar to AlAnon (although without the religion), where people introduce themselves to the crowd, talk about their history, describe their situation and end with the question: “Does it matter?”

For most of these women, they’ve moved beyond the notion that childbearing and breeding are important facets to their lives. “Does it matter?” is the leading question that was intentionally institutionalized as part of the structure in order to open a discussion about the need to bring more children into the world. Heather Harken’s suicide struck the town deep. For several days, everyone drove around town with blank looks on their faces and the level of sadness was unique, despite the arrival of spring.

A few weeks had passed. The family had a small ceremony and the attendance was high, despite the Harken family not being very well integrated with the community.

However, a cloud still hung over the town like an April cumulonimbus, dark and brooding. Towards the end of a few weeks, the senior town representatives decided that it was time that some additional and very influential support be shown. It was decided that one of the senior founders of the MOMYS movement would be invited to Heresford to address everyone and try to bring back some excitement about the creation of God’s Army.
