CBC To Be Cut By $200 Million?
We know the Harpercrites hate the public and we know they hate public broadcasting even more. Maybe it was Peter Mansbridge and his ‘daring’ questioning of our repugnant leader just a few weeks ago.

"Die Peter, Die". (Could it be that he really meant to say "The Peter, The"?).
Anyways, this broadcast spells out that the CBC is likely to lose $200 million in funding from the federal government. This kind of a cut would sabotage the effectiveness and ability of the CBC to properly and professionally report on activities in Canada and abroad.
The shame is beyond belief, despite the fact that I haven’t been a great friend of the CBC lately. Of course, the lack of desire of the CBC to show some strength has been severely hampered by the constant threats and it’s likely that they’ll all continue to cower in fear that the rumours come to light.
As Canadians, we need to continue to steel ourselves to the resolve to boycott all other media sources, including CTV (Conservative TeleVision) or ConWest and throw as much support as we can behind the CBC, given that it at least gives a minor semblance of public fairness in reporting and media coverage.
And don’t forget to write your opposition MPs. Don’t bother with the Cons: they could care less about what you think.
P.S. Don’t forget that if the Cons ever got a majority, the CBC would be vaporized, amongst a broad swath of a number of other Canadian institutions.
Just to be fair to the anti-CBC types out there, I do think that for the most part, the CBC can fund itself from commercial revenue for much of its TV programming. However, I do think the government should help financially support the CBC for educational children's programming and extra Canadian content that is required beyond what the private broadcasters are required to provide. Also, the CBC does need funding for radio and international broadcasts. For radio, we may think that private broadcasters may fill the void. However, in many parts of the country, there may only be one or two private radio broadcasters which may only be interested in rock or country music with three minutes of news thrown in at the top of the hour. Travel along the Lake Superior Gap between the Soo and Thunder Bay. One will really appreciate CBC radio.
The CBC has been stinking up the joint the last few years, from the dissemination of its sports coverage to Strombo's loss of balls. But, cutting funding to the network because it actually sometimes challenges and questions the country's leadership is nothing short of Harper's Bush-like hatred of any criticism or analysis. It also demonstrates that the public be damned. It's Harper or my way, in the mind of Cons. And believe me, Canadians are being conned more and more every day.
As well as the pro-anti-choice crowd in the Con crowd, and bringing back those cuts CBC, the coalition needs to be there and stand together on January 27th. Any political party who thinks that they will be able to take these creeps on in the future, after they ensure that they have no money, are dreaming of days gone by.

Yes. It's the coalition or a one-party state – those are the choices.
But a coalition of which parties? The Liberals under Iggy look like they're just going to cave to Harper.
I've had a little time to reflect on this and I'm leaning to thinking that that Greens and NDPers should try to figure something out. What do you think?
I do think that the Liberals will cave in. They need to raise money for the next election. It will take them about a year to do that. Iggy is going to move the party to the centre (perhaps to the right after the next election).
As for the Greens and NDPers, I don't see them getting together. Jack Layton doesn't want to give the Greens any legitimacy. For Green Party supporters, I will guess that only 40% of them would consider voting NDP as a second choice. The Liberals are another 40%. The Conservatives could get 20% of Green support if the Greens did not exist.

This 'coalition' talk is really frustrating for me because I truly feel that the Liberals are using/abusing the NDP for their seats. Also, I've chatted with a few Greens about the idea of an NDP/Green merger and they are understandably stubborn (as are many NDPers) about forming a coalition.
That said, I really feel we need to figure out a way to make a Green/NDP coalition work. It would send a strong signal to those other folks because it would say 'this is the group to vote for if you're a progressive'.
But all signs point to no coalition. From any angle. This means we've failed the majority of the voters in Canada because we're too driven by our self-interest.
So … we'll get what we get in the next election. Odds are, it'll probably be a Con majoirty and we'll all be screwed.
