June 7: I’m Voting Green

Posted on by 0 comment

Apparently, the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario (PCPO) was hanging together by a very thin, well-worn thread and when Patrick Brown quit, the party is now falling apart.

It seems like no one is interested in the PCPO leadership – Lisa MacLeod and Monte McNaughton both turned down the job – and interim leader Vic Fedeli has set his sights on ‘issues within the party’:

Fedeli, chosen by caucus as temporary leader Friday after Patrick Brown resigned in the face of sexual misconduct allegations, said he needs to devote all his energy to fixing problems within the party instead of launching a leadership campaign.

Problems involve its internal reporting, membership lists and analysis, and security of computer systems, he said at a news conference at Queen’s Park. Fedeli confirmed that the party suffered a “ransomware attack” on its computer systems on Nov. 1.

There’s absolutely NO CHANCE I’m going to vote for the Liberals. Wynne (following in the wake of McGuinty) has destroyed the government of Ontario. The unpopular sell-off of Ontario Hydro, explosive spending, the corruption charges related to email and gas plants and a growing list of other issues have eliminated any sense of trust with this voter.

And now the PCPO is off the list.  Why would I vote for a party who’s own interim leader has fully publicly acknowledged that it’s in turmoil?

That leaves the Greens and NDP.  At a point in my life, I would have had a soft spot for the labour movement, but no longer.  Most of the province’s unionized staff suck off the teat of the public purse (nurses, professors, teachers, etc) and are not subject to the ever-changing whirls of the free market.

The only logical choice, therefore, is the Green Party of Ontario.  They have many components of their plan, but the biggest reason to vote for them: they support a SINGLE education board. No more Separate School Board, thank you.

In the past, I’ve been hard on the Greens. I’ve been so bold as to call them ‘yellow blues’, as in Conservative wolves in a Green clothing (green being a yellow version of blue).

With so few real options, I must force myself to withdraw that view and support the Greens.

Trump State of the Lies Address

Posted on by 0 comment

CTV ‘Fact Checks’ Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address.

We know Trump’s people don’t bother with facts, so I’m glad to see someone has.

What bothers the planet is that no one has the strength and will to challenge Trump on this steaming load of bull that he dumped on Congress last night.

TRUMP: Changes in immigration policies, including more border security, “will also support our response to the terrible crisis of opioid and drug addiction.”

THE FACTS: Drugs being brought across borders are only part of the problem contributing to the nation’s opioid crisis.

According to the U.S. Centers on Disease Control and Prevention, about 40 per cent of the opioid deaths in 2016 involved prescription painkillers. Those drugs are made by pharmaceutical companies. Some are abused by the people who have prescriptions; others are stolen and sold on the black market.

The flow of heroin into the U.S. from Mexico is a major problem, but drugs that are brought from other countries don’t all come over land borders. Illicit versions of powerful synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, which are a major factor in rising overdose numbers, are being shipped directly to the U.S. from China.

So, people, feel free to repeat, adhere to and abide by the lies being spread by Trump and other delusional cons, but hopefully someone soon will emerge to challenge him.

The fate of the planet may depend on it.

‘FLUSH’: Millions of Taxpayer Dollars to be Thrown Away on Traditional Media

Posted on by 0 comment

It looks like we’re being warmed up for a giant spend on ‘Canadian’ publications looking for a handout.

Bitch and moan all you want about the ways Liberals waste dollars, but when you have your hands out for more cash than Croesus can manage, you know what you are.

For more than 20 years, you’ve had opportunities to adapt to this thing called the ‘Interwebz’ and you’re hoping to get even more cash from Canadians who don’t want you around.

For more than 20 years, you had the ability to learn and act. You have NOT.

For more than 20 years, you could have changed your reporting model so that you engaged Canadians with Canadian stories.

For 10 years, you siphoned ‘advertising dollars’ to the tune of billions of dollars from the Harper government as they spent like no tomorrow on propaganda campaigns for their economic programs.

For more than 20 years, you’ve pretended that you ‘cover’ ‘local’ news and information, while barraging us with hyped-up capitalist sentiments from a central office.

We’re at a crossroads. We all know that any taxpayer money spent on print media will be akin to lighting it with a match.

After 20 years, the clock SHOULD HAVE RUN OUT.  But somehow, you still manage to squeeze a few more bucks from the public.

Good for you. I truly wish I could pull of that kind of heist.

A Nation on Opioids

Posted on by 0 comment

This Globe and Mail article seems to ‘celebrate’ the news that opioid prescriptions dropped in 2016.

From a massive 1.3 MILLION new starts (I’ll get to that in a second) down to 1.275 million new starts.

Let’s all hail this massive victory.

‘Starts’ are basically NEW scripts for opioids.  This is for people who have not received an opioid prescription in the previous 6 months.

Did anyone stop to think that still means there are BILLIONS of opioid-related pills and related units making it to the market on an INCREMENTAL basis every year?

It’s no wonder we have a crisis. The medical community has the ‘pedal to the metal’ and is doing everything it can to ensure that every Canadian is hooked on some form of heroin.

I say it’s time for a FULL OUT BAN on new prescriptions and/or ‘starts’ in Canada in order to put an end to the legal distribution of what should be illegal and illicit drugs.

Will this drive the market underground?

No doubt.  But as of July 1, the entire ‘war on drugs’ community is going to be out of work because of the legalization of pot.

Let’s give them something to do.
