Is This A Reminder That Enforcement Sees Cycling As Second Class?

By admin

I’m up for a debate on this, but was pretty annoyed nonetheless when I read about someone being ticketed while on a charity ride from Grand Bend to London, ON this past weekend.

Yes, it seemed pretty clear that they had rode through a stop sign.

But shouldn’t there have been an adjustment of attitude … for all parties involved?

Doing a bike ride for charity doesn’t necessarily give you carte blanche to break any rules of the road. And giving a ticket to someone who asks why isn’t really appropriate either.

It’s really a bit of a chicken/egg kind of situation in my mind. Will cyclists get more respect if they respect the rules of the road? Or will we have to stomp up and down and demand that cyclists have a right to be treated differently than car drivers?

An event of this scale should have had a little more pre-planning to ensure that there weren’t going to be big impediments to the success of the ride.
