Cheney, Gonzales Indicted in Texas

It seems the law is catching up (albeit painfully slowly) to the antics of Dick Cheney and Albert Gonazales. With any luck, the rest of the world’s lawmakers will chip away at the list of other pirates and crooks.
United Nations: Tasers a Form of Torture
The United Nations has declared that the use of Tasers, the stun guns manufactured by Taser International, represent a form of torture when used on people.
Quotes from the story:
"The use of these weapons causes acute pain, constituting a form of torture,” the UN’s Committee against Torture said.
"In certain cases, they can even cause death, as has been shown by reliable studies and recent real-life events,” the committee of 10 experts said.
Three men, all in their early 20s, were reported to have died in the United States this week, days after a Polish man died at Vancouver airport after being Tasered by Canadian police.
The man, Robert Dziekanski, 40, fell to the ground and died after the police officers piled on top of him.
There have been three deaths in Canada after the use of Tasers over the past five weeks.
The company that makes the weapons has said that similar deaths have been shown by "medical science and forensic analysis” to be "attributable to other factors and not the low-energy electrical discharge of the Taser".
The UN committee made its comments in recommendations to Portugal, which has bought the newest Taser X26 stun gun for use by police.
Portugal "should consider giving up the use of the Taser X26,” as its use can have a grave physical and mental impact on those targeted, which violates the UN’s Convention against Torture, the experts said.
Expect to see lots of stories and new scientician books about ‘excited delirium’ and how this ‘disease’ is the true cause of death related to Tasers.

No amount of description about ‘excited delirium’ or other symptoms justify this kind of abuse. Hopefully, this death is not in vain and authorities realize that Tasers are lethal weapons.

After 6 years without charges, Omar Khadr is still being held in Guantanamo. We now see that he’s also being tortured and that CSIS is well in the know about how he’s being treated.
Oh, Canada: what are we doing when we let people treat other Canadians like this?
What really set me off when these tapes were released was the feedback of one person on CBC Radio: "We should give Khadr a Genie for the world-class performance that he’s pulled off". Bravo, you thoughtless, ignorant and cruel person. Unfortunately for the rest of us, you represent the views of about a third of Canada’s population.

Did the US Give OK for Taliban Jailbreak?
Almost a week ago, a massive prison-break was organized by the Taliban, freeing hundreds of their captured allies.
This story puts forward the notion that the break was greenlighted or at least the fleeing prisoners were allowed to run in order to create a pretext to a much longer, ongoing war in Afghanistan.

He weighed about 280 pounds, most of it at his centre, but a good chunk with his arms as well, given the volume of lifting and heaving that he had to do on the farm. Carter: US In Violation of Geneva Convention
The recurring story with Carter fascinates me, mainly because I believe he’s trying to inspire people to act before it’s too late. He’s been active in the Middle East recently, defying the Bush Administration and he’s now on record saying the following:
Our country for the first time in my life time has abandoned the basic principle of human rights.
Of course, the Bush Administration continues to deny all accusations.
